Dable joined the army in 1996, following in the footsteps of his great-great-grandfather, who was a major in the army at just 19 years old. Dable served for 17 years before leaving the military in 2013 and returning to his ancestral home in the Airmakhue area, where his family has owned 3,700 acres of terraced farmland for over 300 years. Driven by a vision to reforest and rejuvenate the land, he founded Mountain Agro Resort and Lodge—a self-sufficient homestay focused on sustainable farming. His primary crop is kiwi, with over 3,000 red and green kiwi plants; the red varieties are used to produce local wine, while the green ones are sold in local markets and in Kathmandu. In addition, he cultivates lemon, almond, apricot, and tea, all grown using organic and sustainable methods. His efforts have made the lodge fully self-sufficient in vegetables and have earned him several awards. In 2025, Dable plans to plant bamboo along the borders of his farm and expand his fruit cultivation, aiming to supply both the fresh produce and wine markets. This long-term project is intended to strengthen the local economy and potentially create a new community-based business.
Planting bamboo offers significant environmental benefits, especially for carbon capture and biodiversity. It absorbs large amounts of CO₂ due to its fast growth and stores carbon in its durable stems. Bamboo also improves soil health, prevents erosion, and creates habitats that support a variety of wildlife. As a low-maintenance, sustainable crop, it enhances biodiversity and contributes to climate resilience, making it an excellent choice for eco-friendly land use.
