Junbesi is a picturesque village in the Solu Khumbu region of Nepal, situated at an altitude of 2,700 meters. It lies on the trekking route to Everest. Predominantly inhabited by the Sherpa community, Junbesi is culturally rich. The village is home to Thupten Chholing Monastery, an important centre for Tibetan Buddhism, which is integral to the cultural and spiritual heritage of Junbesi.
The former school principal, Kazi Sherpa, approached Nepal Evergreen with a request to plant a mixture of trees including Walnut, Kiwi, Apple, Peach, Pear, and Apricot on land cleared in preparation for planting by the river below a new school built after the earthquake in 2015. Junbesi’ s economy is based on agriculture, animal husbandry, and tourism, offering basic amenities and warm hospitality to trekkers.
